How many more lives must be sacrificed before we all see the folly of our actions? Not just the deaths: the same hand also destroys the lives of families, of loved ones, of young people who plunge headlong into obscurity, willingly or not, as they get kicked out of college and a promising future, deservedly or not.
When will we ever learn that the path set by those who came before us is not necessarily the road that we must take? How can we ever hope to explain to the family of a lost brother that we do what we do because people we idolize and admire, heroes, presidents, industry leaders all, did the same things decades and scores ago?
The cycle just goes on and on. When will it end? I do not even know that it will. What I do know is that it must end soon; because if it does not, we will all see our children walk the same godforsaken roads, ask the same unanswerable questions, and die the same miserable deaths.
